Dietitian Jobs in Connecticut
A Dietitian is a healthcare professional who specializes in human nutrition and the regulation of diet. They translate scientific research about food and nutrition into practical solutions for individuals, communities and families. They work with patients to address health and dietary issues, creating personalized meal plans, teaching the importance of nutrition and monitoring patients' progress. They also work in various sectors of the food industry, research, education, corporate wellness programs and government health departments. Dietitians work to promote good health by helping to facilitate a positive change in food choices amongst individuals, groups and communities.
Important skills for a Dietitian include communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and the ability to motivate others. They should also have a strong background in biological and social sciences. Their education often includes study in food and nutrition sciences, foodservice systems management, business, economics, computer science, sociology, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology and chemistry. To become a registered dietitian, one must earn a bachelor's degree in a health-related field, complete an accredited, supervised practice program in a health care facility, community agency, or a foodservice corporation, and pass a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Before becoming a Dietitian, a person may work as a Nutritionist, Dietetic Technician, or a Health Coach.
