They work closely with healthcare professionals, providing individualized dietary advice to patients based on their medical profile and lifestyle. Clinical Dietitians play a crucial role in helping manage and prevent numerous health issues such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, obesity and malnutrition. They also provide nutrition counseling, develop meal plans, and educate patients on the importance of proper nutrition.

A Clinical Dietitian must have completed a bachelor's degree in dietetics, nutrition, or a related field, and a supervised internship program. In addition to these, they should have passed the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) exam to be credentialed as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Key skills required include strong interpersonal and communication skills, critical thinking, detail-orientation and good understanding of diverse cultures and dietary needs. Before becoming a Clinical Dietitian, they may have roles such as a Nutritionist, Dietetic Intern, or a Dietetic Technician.
